19 PEOPLE PERISH ON THE R34 . 19 people died last night following a head-on collision on the R34 between Bloemhof and Schweizer Reneke. The deceased were allegedly travelling from Ipelegeng location in Schweizer-Reneke, and were returning to Bloemhof. The deceased were part of 22 occupants in a vehicle where 3 people (2 females and a child) survived with serious injuries and are now admitted at a local hospital in critical conditions. The MEC for the department of Community Safety and Transport Management Sello Lehari has sent his heartfelt condolensces to the bereaved. “What does one say when life turns out like this. I am heartwrenched. My sincere condolensces to the families. May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.” said the MEC. MEC Lehari continued to plead vigilance to road users. “Road users, let us please pay extra attention when on the road. It is in our hands to save each others lives. We can only do this if we practise responsible driving and are cautious on the road.” added the MEC. The driver of the truck escaped unharmed.
